Like Ronnie Barker before him, the fact that he takes on comedy roles – that which, by definition, is not to? be taken seriously and is seen as merely “jestering” and “buffooning” – distracts many from taking that step back to realise that he is a truly stunningly good character actor.
He inhabits a massively diverse range of characters, each perfectly and uniquely.
I don’t blame Depp for his awe. It is genuinely awesome to behold.
